What about a felony warrant for firearms that were not supposed to be in possession for 10 years?

20:29 April 19th, 2010 by admin

My husband has a felony warrant for firearms he was not supposed to have in his possession for 10 years. If he goes to court with his bail bonds person and they write the bond so he doesn’t go to jail that day, what will happen after that? Can he still "do time" once the judge sets up a court date? He hasn’t been in any trouble since the incident 4 years ago which caused the guns to be taken. Will they make someone do jail time for that sort of thing?

A felony warrant from 4 years ago? Yes, he’ll be doing some time in jail.

What level of regulation would you support in regards to firearms?

19:06 April 14th, 2010 by admin

A) None, anyone should be able to own any firearm they so choose.

B) Limited, automatic weapons should be banned, regular and psychological background checks should be conducted before purchase.

C) Strict, no one other than a select few who have an absolute need for firearms should be able to own them.

D) Complete, no one at all should be allowed to own a firearm.

E) Other (explain please)

Your affiliation?

E -
Anyone should be able to own any firearm . exceptions people who have been convicted of violent crimes and people who have been diagnosed or are being treated for mental disorders. So a background check yes.
I think a gun safety course should be a requirement just like the one required for a hunting license.
and I think conceal and carry should be allowed also as long as you have the required permit.
I guess mostly B however I dont think any should be outright banned if you have the proper background checks and permits.

How can lead absorption be minimized when handling firearms?

12:37 April 9th, 2010 by admin

I have a few questions regarding firearms and lead exposure.

My first question is can lead from handling firearms, ammunition, dust, be absorbed through the skin?

Secondly, can inhalation exposure be minimized by shooting at an outdoor range or wearing a mask if at an indoor range?

Also, aside from hand-washing, what other precautions can be taken?

Is it necessary to wear gloves when cleaning a firearm? Is lead-free ammunition available?

How signficant is the risk of signficant lead exposure with general handling and use of firearms?

Any other information would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I handle firearms and ammo on a daily basis. Including lead shot by the bare hand fulls. I simply just have them do a lead check every six months when I get my physicals and the results have always come back normal.
I take special precautions such as washing my hands after handling ammo or cleaning weapons before I engage in eating or tobacco use. Don’t worry about the lead. I am sure there is something else that is going to kill us that they will find sooner or later.

What do you think is more important about firearms?

15:29 April 1st, 2010 by admin

Is it more important to have firepower, or be able to handle firearms?

Example: Do you think that the correct firearm tactics of a person with a 9mm pistol can outmaneuver a person with an AK 47?

Raw firepower is overrated. The odds favor the skilled operator. Examples abound.

The "spray and pray" technique of throwing a lot of lead down range in the hope that something will be hit is held in justified contempt by competent gunmen everywhere.

Legendary firearms guru Col. Jeff Cooper used to offer this blessing to his students: "May all your enemies be on full-auto."

I once watched a Border Patrol officer with his duty pistol out shoot a class full of rifles (including me) at 75+ yards. He didn’t shoot as fast as the rifles, but every shot hit the target.

Rumor (legend?) has it that a group of target shooters in Eastern Europe, armed with .22 pistols, took on a platoon of Soviet soldiers armed with AK-47s and, firing from cover, slowly whittled them down to the last man — one shot, one kill.

Middle Eastern terrorists quit trying to machine gun crowds in Israel and switched to suicide bombs because many Israelis carry concealed handguns and they were cutting the machine gunners down where they stood.

Et cetera.

How have video games influenced peoples perceptions of firearms?

13:23 March 29th, 2010 by admin

Do you think the video game culture has a negative, positive, or neutral impact of the general perception of firearms by the public? Please explain your answer and/or reasons.

I asked this here since hunters have more real firearms experience than any other category in yahoo answers. This was also asked in the video game section of yahoo to get a fair comparison of answers.

My experience tells me that it has been generally negative.

I have the pleasure to teach the firearms portion of hunter’s training where I live (once a year is all we do). Most often, I bring in several (trigger locked/cased) firearms for "show and tell" because visual aids help a lot. There is a short, well supervised practical at our range afterwards (lots of parents like this, even the non-hunters).

Most children are in the 12-17 year old range, and you can tell the questions they have almost always stem from TV/movies/games. Every year I always have this conversation…

(after the "boring" lecture on calibre/bore size)
Them: Do you own a .50 cal?
Me: Yes, I even own a .54 cal. Do you want to see them?
*enthusiastic head nods all around*
I pull out my two muzzle-loaders, and you can almost feel the disappointment in the room.
Me: Please be more specific, as there are many cartridges/rifles in one bore diameter.

(Later, after the optics lesson)
Them: Do you own a sniper rifle?
Me: No. Some of my rifles have scopes on them, but having a scope does not make it a sniper rifle. Unless you enlist in the military, you wont have one either.

Insert "assault rifle" talk here/hunting with an AK talk here (AK’s and variants thereof are prohibited in Canada), etc. etc…

Then there are the kids that think .22’s are perfectly adequate hunting rifles (after which comes the "boring" lecture on ethical hunting energies and minimum hunting bore sizes).

Then there are the kids who think they can handle a .50 BMG, but after shooting a .32 Win. Special on the practical they flinch so bad they can’t hit anything with a .22 (I only let the kids shoot what I think they can handle, for example I’m not going to let an 80 pound kid shoot my .45-70 with Ruger #1 loads!).

However, being in a rural area, you always get a few farm kids who only take the course as it’s government required to get a hunting permit in this province. These kids tend to answer questions of the other kids faster than I can, and are most often correct. But these kids are getting fewer and farther between.

My town is only 4000 people, and 75 miles away from the nearest city! And yet games take up more of the kids lives, killing the interest for the outdoors.

Sorry about the long thread. Just giving my $0.02
